HAPPY HOLIDAYS from RADIO FREE CRUZE!

 Hi, everyone!

 

 The Podcast is taking a quick holiday break this week, due to a combination of my being away for Christmas visiting family, and the upcoming move to Washington, DC.  Yes, we are relocating Vully Bully Ranch to somewhere in the DC area, and it will be happening after the 1st of the year.

 RADIO FREE CRUZE ONLINE will continue to be updated each day, and the podcast will continue as well, although the schedule will be a little more erratic for the next few weeks until I get settled.

 Expect a new podcast for next week (after Christmas, before New Year's), and in fact it may actually be posted by Friday the 29th.

 Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah to everyone, and have a great holiday wherever you are.

  Happy Holidays everybody!!!  It's Christmas week, and things are even crazier than usual here at Vully Bully Ranch!

  Things are changing just a bit for the Lovely Nadia and me...I talk about it on the show, and it's part of the reason that we missed a week of the show last week for the first time since we launched the podcast.  Sorry to miss, but it was unavoidable!

  We're back with a vengeance this week, however, and it feels great to be back!  Not quite as much stuff crammed into this show, so there's lots of music, and several really cool holiday tunes!

  Welcome to show #69!!  (Insert sophomoric joke here...)  I do have a sophomoric topic...

  Who would have thought we would ever have a chance to view Britney Spears' "private regions?"  And who would have thought that it would be as much of a letdown as it was?  If haven't seen the photos, and you really must, click here ...but don't say I didn't warn you.  You will wish you hadn't.  Some things are just better left to the imagination.  

  Fortunately, as disturbing as that is, we do have some really incredible music on this week's show, and it's not disturbing at all.  In fact, these tracks are just downright AWESOME...

RADIO FREE CRUZE #68 "What The Hell Happened To Generation X?"

  Welcome to the show!!  At least one serious segment this week, as I read a great article this week in the current issue of DETAILS magazine about GENERATION X, and it really got me thinking about how not only did GEN X sell out...pretty much EVERY generation sells out.  Our favorite artists sell out.  It's just a fact of life.  And maybe it's not such a bad thing...but don't be too quick to judge the GEN X'ers...your generation will sell out too.  Or maybe it already has!

  We DO feature seven really strong tracks from bands that have NOT sold out, at least not yet.  Give them time...

  Speaking of magazines, Britan's "Q" Magazine has named what their writers and editors believe is the TOP 20 POP SONGS OF THE LAST 20 YEARS.  See if you agree, and email me your thoughts at cruze@radiofreecruze.com.

  And, although we've already done a Video of the Month for November, I couldn't pass up the chance to link you to THIS.  It's a very cool music video treatment that somebody did for the OUTKAST song "Hey Ya."  The video footage, though, is all taken from the classic Christmas Special "It's a Charlie Brown Christmas."  I grew up watching these things every Holiday season, so I absolutely love this...  CLICK HERE to check it out...

  Welcome to show #67!!   That line of dialogue from BILL MURRAY in GHOSTBUSTERS has always been one of my favorite movie clips...and now there's a story that indicates that DOGS and CATS may not only be living together, but SLEEPING TOGETHER, just like MAX and FLUFFY here:

  So a woman in Brazil claims that her CAT gave birth to 3 PUPPIES, along with 3 KITTENS.  A pretty amazing story, especially if it's true.  The DNA results are still out...but I'm sure MAURY POVICH will do a show about it...

RADIO FREE CRUZE #63 "The Scariest Movie Scene Of All Time"

  Well, welcome to the closest thing we'll have this year to a HALLOWEEN SHOW!  I did a full-fledged Halloween Edition last year, but since this is being posted 6 days before Halloween, I'm just not quite in the spirit of playing ALL Halloween music.  I DO play a really cool song CALLED "Halloween," as well as a BAND called "Halloween, Alaska.."  Here are the tracks from this show:

  I'll tell you, if there's one thing that pisses me off, it's an Indie Snob.  I will never understand why people can't be content to like what they like, and let everyone else like what THEY like.  I get a little worked up on this episode of the show over an email from some guy who calls himself BSlap221.  I probably should learn to just let stuff like this go, but here I am ranting and raving.  My apologies...

  I think the music is SO GOOD, though, that it makes the whole show worth it.  And GIANT BRIAN is back with his HEADLINES WITH THE GIANT feature.  The Headlines are lifted right out of his excellent GIANT SHOW, which you can download for free by clicking HERE.

  OK, so...thank God I don't live in Poland!  If so, the authorities would be looking for me just from the content of this Podcast!  Apparently, according to THIS STORY, you can be arrested in Poland just for expressing your feelings about the President.  Especially if that expression is in the form of what The Urban Dictionary describes as "a minor explosion between the legs..."  Although I'm not in any danger of being put behind bars, I'm afraid I have to admit I couldn't resist the obvious joke here.  I hope you guys will forgive me...it seemed funny at the time.  Actually, it still does.  I'm such a child...

    •   So...did it really happen?  Did FOX-TV not catch the "F-BOMB" in last Sunday Night's edition of THE FAMILY GUY?  Bloggers are reporting that this clip aired on the East Coast of the US, although that is being called a hoax or a viral marketing campaign by other reports.  Here's the clip...check it out for yourself...

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #55 "Hello Malta!"

      So, Hello Malta!  Beginning this week, with SHOW #55, Radio Free Cruze is now broadcast each week on 93.3 Central FM in Europe, based on the island of Malta.

      Malta is, according to Wikipedia, a "densely populated island nation consisting of an archipelago of seven islands in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, which lies directly south of Sicily, east of Tunisia and north of Libya."  Here's what it looks like from space:

      This is a really cool expansion of the show, and I'm very excited about this new step in the evolution of Radio Free Cruze.

      I share a troubling story on this show, from Britan, where a new survey says that although 37% of British teens who are sexually active report that they use condums, a large number of them DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THEM CORRECTLY!  This really gets me angry, because it doesn't need to be that way!  With proper sex education, this would be a non-issue, but the neo-conservative political activists keep our school programs hopelessly locked in the sexual dark ages.  If they tell teens how to use condums properly, they are afraid teenagers might, (and I know this will shock you) HAVE SEX!!!  So they allow them to risk dying instead, like that is somehow better.  Let's wise up, please, and not vote for these selfish morons again!  Please!!

      Meantime, there is a really cool TRU/FLS Challenge, and I share my quick review of both MADDEN NFL '07 for XBOX 360 (I really like it!), and the new movie SNAKES ON A PLANE (I love it!).

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #53 "The World's Biggest Hole"

      Happy One Year Anniversary to RADIO FREE CRUZE!  Our first show (which is now out-of-print) was posted on August 14, 2005!

      THE HOLE

      Wow!  A year of podcasting!  You know, it's interesting...a lot of the first podcasts I started listening to have "podfaded" and are completely gone now.  Especially a lot of the music podcasts, for some reason.  In any case, I'm incredibly proud that RADIO FREE CRUZE is turning One Year Old.  And I'm proud of the music on this show, too...

      So I guess you've noticed the picture above of the enormous hole.  I know you're expecting a Kirstie Alley joke here, and I do make one on the podcast, for which I immediately apologize.  Seriously, though...does this look like something out of REVENGE OF THE JEDI, or what?  It's actually a big hole in the ground near a city in Siberia.  Notice how small the buildings are in comparison to this thing.  The red arrow is pointing to a DUMP TRUCK that's inside the hole on one of the ledges, to give you an idea of the scale of this thing.  It's monstrous!!

      Does Martha Stewart pimp for cigarettes?  And is there really a turd in England that looks just like the Queen Mum?  The answers to that kind of soul-searching questions are found in the TRU/FLS Challenge in this episode of the show.

      So I love how the British say that someone was "sacked" rather than the American version, that they were "fired."  There is something about the visual of "sacked" that just seems more obvious.  And it really fits when it's someone who is really obnoxious, like Star Jones.  Apparently her 15 minutes have been up for a while, because the research on her as one of the start of THE VIEW is apparently just terrible.  Finally...some research I can agree with!

      Anyway, a listener-submitted Top 5 list on this week's show offers five very plausible reasons that may have impacted the firing. (Or "sacking", as the case may be.)

    GOD IS DEAD?

      So nevermind the inflammatory church sign shown here.  Let's discuss.  Is God Really Dead?  Does he exist?  And if he does, isn't he really pissed off at how we have screwed up his planet?

      Ok, first of all, major apologies for how long it took me to get this entry posted.  For some reason, I've been having problems with my blog manager, Moveable Type, and it keeps kicking me off of the system.  Hopefully I'll get this entered before it kicks me off again.

      First, here are the tracks from Number 45...

      I love the photo above of the Star Trek Lieutenant holding a phaser on "Princess Leia."  Who says you can't meet girls at a Star Trek Convention.  (Then again, these girls kinda scare me.  And check out the geeky fanboy in the background who has apparently never seen a girl's legs before.  Anyway...)

      The title of the episode is not taken from the photo, however.  It's from an extremely cool video that I found that actually enacts a "Star Trek vs. Star Wars" battle.  Yes, I know...this is so geeky that it even embarasses ME.  But CLICK HERE or on the graphic below and watch it.  It's pretty damn cool.

    STAR TREK vs STAR WARS

      The child molester GARY GLITTER, who wrote and performed the instrumental song "ROCK AND ROLL PT. 2" is back in the news.  Since he's in jail for having sex with two 11-year-old girls, the NFL has asked its team's stadiums NOT to play his song in the stands at football games.  I talk about this on the show, and mention one of my favorite podcasts, the MURPHY'S PATRIOTS AUDIO BLOG.  I am a big New England Patriots fan, and I listen to this really cool fan show all the time.  Check them out HERE.

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #44 "Drawing On Mister Happy!"

      Welcome back to RADIO FREE CRUZE!!  We have exciting news this week, as promised!  I talk about it on the podcast, but I'll tell you here as well.  We've launched a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week, streaming Indie Rock and Alternative Radio Station!  That's right, RADIO FREE CRUZE is now available 24 hours a day!

      So the digital stream is brand new, and I'll be refining the station quite a bit, but it's very exciting to be launching this and I really want you to try it out, and then email me with your suggestions at cruze@radiofreecruze.com.

      I didn't think it made sense to play ONLY podsafe (cleared for play on the podcast) music on the station, although all of the great stuff you hear on the podcast is there.  In addition to those artists though, you'll hear ARCADE FIRE, THE BLACK ANGELS, EELS, BLOC PARTY, CAT POWER, THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS, and more indie and indie-friendly artists that I haven't been able to play on the podcast.  At the end of the day, I just want to expose great music that you might not hear otherwise, so I'll be looking for exactly the right balance to do that.

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #41 "The Worst Movies Of All Time"

      Ok, so despite the title being about movies, (which I'll get to in a moment,) this episode of the show is actually dedicated to all those idiots who drive around in their Subarus with the bumper sticker that says "Kill Your Television."

      These are the same morons who tell you "Oh, I never watch television..." and then proceed to tell you which American Idol contestant they like or who should have been elimated from Survivor. 

      Fact is, Ms. Granola, you can find some really great (and even educational) programming on TV. In fact, far better than most of what's at the movies, at least for the past couple of years.  And even some of what is NOT educational is simply great entertainment.  If you can't find anything good on TV, then stop watching FULL HOUSE reruns and try the Discover Channel, for God's sake.

      Or try LOST.  Or 24.  Or BOSTON LEGAL.  Or BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.  If you are a fan of any of those shows, be sure to check out this episode of RADIO FREE CRUZE, as I recommend podcasts that can get you through the off-season, since all of these shows have already done their season finales.  Here are the links I have so far:

    "RADIO FREE CRUZE #40 "Can An Astronaut Pass Gas?"

       Welcome to my 40th show!  Wow.  This seems like some kind of accomplishment, and I'm not really sure why.  It's not the 50th show...that will be here soon enough.  I guess 50 is a big deal because it is halfway to a hundred.  And 52 will be a big thing because, if I stay on schedule, that will mark the one-year anniversary of RADIO FREE CRUZE.

     This show was not one of the first podcasts, but I like to think of it as one of the first that was not targeted specifically to other podcasters.  RADIO FREE CRUZE is for people who love great music, pure and simple.  It's not populated by a lot of bands with bad vocalists, like I hear on some other shows, and it's not a "singer/songwriter" show.  The artists that make it on RADIO FREE CRUZE should be able to produce music that's on par with what you hear on the radio, and beyond.  Just because we're getting this music out without the radio, doesn't mean it should be of a lesser quality.

      Anyway, not sure why I got off on that rant.  Show #40 is one of my favorites so far, and only in part because it asks, and answers the question, "...can an astronaut belch or fart in space?"  I feel kinda like Bill Nye the Science Guy.  Although I haven't seen him dealing with space farts.

      At the risk of sounding like a total tool, I also admit that I'm beside myself because no one has taken me up on my offer from show #39 to review RADIO FREE CRUZE on iTunes, and I will send you a RELO iPod case.  The offer still stands for the first 5 people to do so.  Come on, you guys, help me out here.  Don't force me to sign up under 5 bogus names just to keep from embarrassing myself.  Just write a quick review, and then email me at cruze@radiofreecruze.com to let me know you posted it, and I'll send you the free case.

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #38 "These Gas Prices Suck!"

      Well, it's been several shows since I went off on a rant about something, so I guess it was just a matter of time.  Thing is, I had to fill up my gas tank today, and the higher the numbers climbed on the pump, the angrier I got.

    Honestly, these current escalating gas prices are absolute horseshit!  Oil companies are reporting record profits, and they are gouging you and me to do it.  So it's a little tough to rein myself in on this topic once I get going.  Thankfully, it's toward the end of the podcast, and the music is so good, you won't mind hearing me rave on.  Check out the lineup for this show:

      So, you're probably way ahead of me on this, but I'm pretty psyched about two movies that I've been reading about, and I mention both of them on Episode #37.  There's the "as-yet-unnamed" 11th Star Trek movie (yes, I'm hopeless, I admit it.)  That's not even due out until 2008.  But by August, you will be able to visit a movie theatre near you and check out the hottest item of discussion on the web, SNAKES ON A PLANE.  And you'll get to hear Sam utter the fan-created line, "I Want Those Motherfucking Snakes...Off The Motherfucking Plane!"

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #35 "Is Podcasting Dead?"

     Welcome to this week's show!  A new study suggests that Podcasting, the brand-new medium, is already dead in the water!  What do you think?  I give some statistics from a new study by the Forrester Research Group, and talk about why I think they are crap.  What is it Mark Twain said?  "There are three kinds of lies.  Lies.  Damn Lies.  And Statistics."

     Honestly, I think this is truly an exciting time to be alive!  Podcasting is just one of the ways that the control of the media is being wrestled away from the mega-companies, and the playing field is being leveled.  Now, they will only survive if they produce entertainment and media that people actually WANT.  Just as cable upped the stakes for Broadcast TV, podcasting ups the stakes for Broadcast radio.  If they put out quality, we'll listen.  If not, we have a LOT of other options!

     You can't quite tell from the picture here, but STAR JONES is one of the biggest morons on the planet.  Actually, you don't need the picture to know that.  But if you have any doubts, click HERE or on the pic itself to see the RADIO FREE CRUZE "Video Of The Month."  It's STAR JONES getting hit on the head by a football and falling to the ground, where she moans in pain.  As the guy says at the end of this clip, you just can't see this enough.

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #34 "Don't Lie About My Pizza Pie!"

    It was really tempting, but I just couldn't do it.  After all, I promised last show that I would lay off of the more gratuitous show titles for at least a little while.  But that was tough to do when I saw this picture, and the accompanying story.  It seems that American's Favorite Little Tart, LINDSAY LOHAN, showed her bare ass to an auditorium full of kids at the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards.  Nice move, Lindsay.  And nice buns, too...

    I also rant a bit aimlessly on the show about Pizza and False Advertising.  I'm not sure why this seemed so important to me at the time, but I guess I'm just getting sick of people and businesses being able to claim anything they want without being able to back it up.  And it's our fault, as customers.  We should call them on it, and yet, because it's convenient, we just let it go, and let people get away with saying "Brick Oven Pizza" when they don't even HAVE a Brick Oven.  I know, it's petty, right?  I should just get over it and move on.  Because you are in line behind me, and the last thing you want is to have to wait for me to finish bitching about it before you can order your pizza and get on with your day.  "Sigh."

    Anyway, the music is really excellent on this show.  Check it out:

    I just read where Tom DeLay has decided not to run for reelection, thanks to the fact that he's running so far behind in the polls.  Thank God that people in Texas are waking up and realizing what scum this guy is.  I don't mention this on the show, but boy is it a relief to see the US starting to come out of its coma, like Tony Soprano with a gunshot wound, looking around the room and wondering what the hell happened while we were unconcious.

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #33 "Britney Spears Nude On A Bearskin Rug?"

     I really wasn't going to do another show title like this, but this story just couldn't be ignored.  I admit that I've used some "titillating" show titles in the past, including "JESSICA SIMPSON LOVES BOOBS," and "WILL LINDSEY LOHAN DO A NUDE SCENE?" and in all honesty I was going to at least let a little time go by before I used another "gratuitous" title.  But in all honesty, this was more than I could resist.

     A scultpor in New York has dedicated a life-size statue of a nude, pregnant, on-all-fours-on-a-bearskin-rug BRITNEY SPEARS to the Pro-Life Movement.  No, I'm not kidding.  Check out the story for yourself HERE, and be sure to notice the pictures.  It's official.  This world we're living in is getting more and more bizarre every day.

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #32 "Yes, I'm A Moron. Give Me Your Cash!"

    Welcome back!  It's a jam-packed show this week, and I have a couple of random observations, as well as some truly awesome music.  First the tunes...

    Ok...a few things on my mind this week.  Gary Glitter, the former glam-rock star, has proven himself to be little more than human scum.  First he's convicted in the UK in 1999 of posession of child porn, and now he's convicted in Viet Nam of actual Child Molestation...for having sex with two ELEVEN YEAR-OLD GIRLS!   And yet, we still hear his one hit, Rock & Roll Part II, in stadiums and arenas all over the world at sporting events...in fact, the song is almost synoymous with NBA Basketball.  Is this wrong?  Every time his song is played, he makes money.  Should we refuse to play, and therefore support him?  Or is the music really not connected to his depravity in any way, and is therefore ok?  I'd love to know what you think on this, as I am totally conflicted.  Reply in the comments section here, or send your thoughts to me at cruze@radiofreecruze.com.  I'll share the comments on the next show...

    On the subject of inappropriate things...I mention a little girls' outfit I saw for sale at the airport in Texas.  This picture isn't exactly it...but it was similar, maybe a little skimpier.  Kind of like what JEAN-BENET RAMSEY'S mom made her wear in those ridiculous pagaents.

     I also admit on the show that I am addicted to watching this stupid clip!  It's a video of LIVE ACTORS doing the opening segment from THE SIMPSONS.  This is a really stupid idea, and shouldn't even be remotely entertaining, so why do I keep watching it over and over.  CLICK HERE to see it, and become addicted yourself...

    This show may have our best music lineup yet:

    The POPTART MONKEYS song is something a little different than we've done on the show before, but I really like it.  And I'm so psyched to be able to play COHEED AND CAMBRIA...I've been crazy about this band and this song for a long time.

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #30 "Your Beer Belly Could Save Your Life!"

     I've found the perfect excuse to have another Harpoon IPA...a Beer Belly could save my life!  Here's a link to the story, which is actually pretty interesting. 

     The only reading I've found MORE entertaining this week, is the amazing back-and-forth between "comedian" Joe Rogan and a 20-year-old college student, who started the exchange by emailing Joe to say, "You Suck."  Instead of letting it roll off his back, like I think most celebrities do, Joe starts an amazing exchange with this guy, eventually calling him a total loser, and explaining how he, Joe Rogan, is a multimillionaire and a Tai-Kwan-Do expert.  Or something like that.  Fascinating.  And almost as interesting is the paragraph where Joe comes back after the fact and defends his postings.  This is so "car-crash-interesting" that I couldn't stop reading it.  Tell me if you don't get the same weird voyeuristic charge out of this...

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #29 "Batman Kicks Al Qaeda's Ass?"

    I know I'm going to get some flak for this episode, because there will undoubtedly be people who don't actually listen to what I'm saying about comic book plots normally being less "one-dimensional" than government propaganda.  Right wingers will probably just accuse me of "giving comfort to the enemy."  But that's exactly what I'm talking about.  I'm not upset because I don't think that Batman (or whomever) should be kicking Al Qaeda's ass--that's actually not a bad idea.  What's bad is that I'm used to comic books, as crazy as this sounds, having more three-dimensional plots, instead of just buying into the Government's jingoistic point of view.  If this comic had come out in 2002, it could have been "Batman Finds Weapons Of Mass Destruction."  But of course, he wouldn't have, because they weren't there!!

    Anyway, I'll apologize right here for getting political...it really started out as just my disappointment in writer FRANK MILLER, who should know better than to write this kind of a BATMAN story.  But despite all of this, the music on Episode 29 is really fantastic!  Check it out:

    RADIO FREE CRUZE Special Edition #01 "Dance This Mess Around!"

    Well, as promised, here it is:  the first "SPECIAL EDITION" of Radio Free Cruze.  This is a little like returning to my roots, as I was a dj and "turntablist" at an Alternative Dance Club a number of years ago.  It's easy and fun to settle back down into the beats again, so I had a blast putting this show together--I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

    This should be the first of a number of "Special Edition" shows here at Radio Free Cruze.  My plan is that these shows will always be an "extra" so you'll get the normal show each week, and any Special Edition would be a bonus.  That way if you like it, great!  If the Special Edition in question is not your cup of tea, you'll still have a "normal" episode that week.

    Back on the regular schedule this week, and it just so happens to be "POOP WEEK," thanks to a UK Zoo.  I think we should celebrate it world-wide, as there's just never too many chances for poop jokes!

    Am I the only one that's not too excited about the Olympics?  They are all over TV and I couldn't be less interested!  I actually feel a little bad admitting that--it's like I'm SUPPOSED to be interested, but I'm really just not.  Oh well...

    RADIO FREE CRUZE #27 "Jessica Simpson Loves Boobs!"

    So here's the deal...this show was late.  REALLY LATE!  I was leaving for a short vacation, and had all the best plans of posting #27 the night before I left, but a minor equipment glitch kept me from getting the show up.  So then I left, and got "snowed out" of my own airport and couldn't get home in time to get the show posted the NEXT Monday.  So here it is, over a week late, with my apologies!  The music is great, though, and the Jessica Simpson quote is priceless.
